St.Michael subduing the devil

The artist working on a commission from Sir Paul Craven-Robinson in Bath. He commissioned two huge paintings, St.George and St.Michael to be hung in his Bath residence. A view of me in his home with the St.Michael behind me on the wall. Both beautifully gilt framed. A proud moment for me.

St.George and the Dragon

The large scale painting to the left was a commission from Sir Paul Craven-Robinson of Bath uk. It was painted in oils on great quality canvas. He wanted a traditional subject matter which would fit in with his decor. I wanted to give the work a dramatic feel with the corpuscular rays of light cascading from the clouds above. Giving the piece a magical atmosphere. St.George is an important figure in English history. I have tried to portray him as a hero, vanquishing the deadly foe.

His costume after careful research was vaguely correct.

The original painting, now residing in Bath, is 183cm's x 122cm's big on a deep stretcher frame measuring 50mm.

Varnished and framed.

The Davey Clan

The drawing to the right was commissioned by my friend Adrian, A Trout Farm Owner in Lechlade UK. He gave me a list of additions he wanted to include in the picture. The Doctor Who stuff and various animals etc. I then concocted the composition to fit the rear garden view. Drawn on Antique pitch pine panel in charcoal.

I enjoyed doing the work and welcome others depending on my schedule.

Charcoal sketch on prepared board..jpg

A very personal memory of a life well lived and deeply mourned.

This piece of work was really quite complex. The client, a very good friend of mine for thirty odd years, runs a large gymnasium in Swindon. Scorpion Gym at Westcott Place. His lovely wife passed away last August. After a suitable time of mourning he commissioned this drawing to commemorate their time together. The Tabernacle building, once of Regent St, was the place where they first met in their younger days.

The paper is textured white with charcoal.

The picture on the right is the piece framed and mounted.

A magical rear garden space designed and produced by Ash, the owner of Eggelicious.
A very clever fellow who had a vision and the energy to bring to life.

Ash's beautiful garden

This piece of work was commissioned by Ash at Eggelicious last August. During that long hot summer of 2022.

He invited us to attend a lavish BBQ. Beautiful healthy food and oodles of beer. The work was commissioned to commemorate his beautiful garden that has taken nearly twenty years of careful planning and application. The painting was a pleasure to complete. It took two months and is painted in oils on deep edged canvas.

The picture to the right is Ash picking up his piece from my studio. With a big smile on his face.

Danny and Pikey

This commission was completed whilst at my studio at the Palladium Theatre in Swindon. A large 1920's edifice where i occupied the upper floors. Prestige the Printers were downstairs. Danny Veal the client popped over with his Jack Russel Terrier. He requested an atmospheric portrait in charcoal viewed from the top of my stairs. I took a photo of the scene with Pikey his dog.

The final piece was to be mounted in a magnificent hand-made copper frame.

The drawing is A1 size. 594 x 841 mm

The drawing has a foreshortened effect. With the dog coming to the fore and the figure diminishing backwards. Using the tone of the charcoal to give the effect.

Donation to the Charity 'Bolts N' Brews' from Artist Paul Augustus Walters.

This commission donated to the 'Mental Health

Charity' based in Keynsham Nr Bristol. It is a

motorcycle based charity that helps and supports

Mental Health issues with men aged between 18 - 65.

They have a regular meeting each month with a couple

of guest speakers. The painting is of Mike Leary one of the Directors of Bristol Bobbers, the organisation that set up the charity. 'BB' design and manufacture custom motorcycles for customers in the UK. This artwork is of Mikey wearing his favourite dungarees riding his new custom Harley, built from scratch. I hope the painting does his project justice?

Here is Mike Leary taking delivery of his new painting. To be hung in the 'Bolts N' Brews establishment. "Fabulous job Paul, thank you so much. I'll treasure it."

A commission for my sister. A very deliberate abstract picture that was finished and completed by myself and my sister.

This piece of work, which measures 4ft x 3ft was

completed over a period of time, firstly in my studio here in Swindon. Then finished in Chipping Norton at my sisters residence. Her beautiful 18th century house is designed and furnished to a tremendous aesthetic standard. The painting executed in oils on a ancient canvas and stretcher, was very carefully hung and balanced upon the interior wall.

The Hooter Man.

A triumph of dedication over substance. This piece, a commission for an exhibition in Swindon to commemorate the Anniversary of the GWR founding 180 years ago. It was supposed to go into an exhibition last September at the Wagon Works, but the show was cancelled due to the organiser being ill. She is Seventy five years old and had cancer. She has thankfully recovered now. The artwork took one month to complete and uses metallic copper paint. The hooter figure is designed to be just a robot, or a cog in a larger machine. Hence why I have not painted any details.

Gwithian sunset.

Paula's house mural. This commission instigated by my Angel Paula. It resides at the back of our capacious blue sofa. The piece was to accomodate the various blues and other hues to go with the colour ways in the lounge. The view is of 'Gwithian' on the south Cornwall coast where we go walking regularly. It is a windswept place. Often brutal and everchanging. The winds whipping up very quickly, often catching us out. The clouds are always quite surreal and almost shape-changing.

Above all I answered the brief and the Lady-of-the-House is pleased. Job done. It measures 7ft by 3.5ft, completed in three days. Oil on canvas.
